Ugly Sweater 5k Run

You know you are running an incredibly unique race when people who finish last are rewarded, not those that cross the finish line first. The prizes for those in first annual Ugly Christmas Sweater 5k run in Louisville, CO are also uniquely different as well. Those wearing the tackiest sweaters walked away with a sought after prize: a year membership to the jelly of the month club!

This race is about year-around fitness and fun. When you are wearing a funky sweater and festive head gear you can’t help but jam out. Human Movement LLC, a Louisville based event and production company, organizes the race. The fun started with hot chocolate and Sam Adams beer before the start signals whirled. After finishing the run more beer, hot chocolate, Christmas cookies, Carolers and speakers pumping Christmas classics was waiting.

The fun is also in the community Human Movement creates. The company started the “Lucky Mile Racing Series” over the summer to encourage racers of all kids to come out and run one mile. But is was about more than the quick run. It highlighted community and encouraged fitness for all groups. Some runners even found the courage and motivation to run the Louisville Half Marathon over the summer as well.

It’s not just running events Human Movement organizes. Next month the Swift Skedaddle, a  snowshoe adventure reminds everyone that snow on the ground doesn’t mean your heart rate stops and neither does the fun!
